So a few years back I was in a pretty bad place. After an abusive relationship, soul destroying job and almost constant pain from a bad car crash, I had a "super happy fun mind go byebye time!". I think the Doc called it a mental breakdown.
Will spare the poop details and flash forward about 18months. I met someone who encouraged me to start drawing again.
I wasnt sure but i started to look around online and i found DA! So many pretties!
I think the first thing i put up after joining was a little icon I made for a competition for The Fancy Narwhal.
After that I joined a group called Daily Sketch Challenge. A group dedicated to getting people to draw every day which i needed since it had been so long since i had drawn. Once in a while they would hold Character Battle Royals. A draw-off tournament. Lots of fun. Lots of People. Lost very badly in the first round but met lots of great people some of which I am now lucky enough to call my friends.
In the second CBR I took part in I managed a first for me. A drawing that I was proud of.
I knew Mojo Jojo wouldnt let me down.
After that I carried on drawing my cartoon types. Love cartoons!
I started to try my hand at more comic book style drawings and I was rubbish... So i started to try colour them instead which I found I enjoyed just as much as drawing. One of the best things about DA is the access to great artists. Even better they are often happy for you to try and colour their work.
Boba Fett by Paul Moore
Super Girl by Carl Riley
and Deat Heat by my good friend Seb Carey
Four Years since I started here. Its no lie to say I probably wouldn't still be drawing if I hadn't found this site and alot of the wonderful people here and at times drawing is all thats kept me sane.
Still a long way to go till I get as good as I want to be and although there are always knockbacks and kicks in the pencil I gotta keep going.
I started with a Narwhal and i'll end with one too.
Thanks for being here DeviantART!
